Description and Location
A land of culture, writers, musicians and poets, Loja is the birthplace of the painter Eduardo Kingman and writers such as Pablo Palacio and Benjamín Carrión, creator of the Casa Ecuatoriana de la Cultura (Ecuadorian House of Culture). The city of Loja, capital of the province bearing the same name, is a small but welcoming conurbation famed for its colonial old quarter and surrounded by a mountainous and inspirational panorama. The friendliness of its people is legendary, as are the valleys and hills that account for the varying climate and provide the picturesque topography. Privileged by ecological diversity and with a responsible and visionary urban development program, Loja has been the recipient of various international awards.
